Notes adapted from online sources: Stoneware production styles of New York State mirrored those of New England potters: potters began with an aesthetic reminiscent of New York City potters then moved on to finer, straight-sided forms adorned with bright cobalt designs. Decoration could range from simple florals to wild decorations of animals or other more unusual themes. Just a few of the key potters/potteries from this later period include John Burger and son of Rochester, the White family of Utica, Reidinger and Caire in Poughkeepsie, William MacQuoid of Manhattan, and Madison Woodruff of Cortland.
