A rare cobalt decorated stoneware crock for mustard storage with a 2 gallon capacity. A well potted jar of cylindrical form with eased shoulder and applied lug handles.

An advertising jar impressed with a crisp cobalt stamp reading C. Premium Mustard with capacity mark just below as well as a stylized cobalt blue bird perched upon a branch. New York merchant Charles Boese won awards for various prepared mustards in the late 19c. Measures 12 inches high x 8 7/8 bottom diameter. Condition: the jar reveals several hairlines and was duct taped on the interior to provide integrity as well as an applied felt bottom.

Chips to the rim and handles. All tolled a wonderful old crock that will easily fit in amongst similar pieces.
