Antique Primitive Stoneware Crock/Jar Marked 2 Nice Brown Glaze. The dimensions are height 14 x width at top rim 6 x width at base 8-3/8 and weighs 9 pounds and 7 ounces.

This is a very nice primitive wheel thrown crock with a chip on one handle and a clay drying fault/crack on the bottom. This crock has interesting features as follows. >because of the chip on the handle, the interesting red stoneware clay is revealed which should enable someone knowledgeable of natural clay locations be able to locate the region the crock was made. >on the bottom, one can see the mark left by the cutting wire/string as the potter cut the pot from the wheel head. >at the bottom of the pot, one can see indentations left by the potters fingers as he removed the soft clay crock from the wheel head.

>also there are the marks left by the potters fingers as they held the bone dry clay pot upside down and dipped it into the glaze and. >the number 2 was created by using a pointed tool and poking it into the clay.
