Antique Primitive Stoneware New York State FABULOUS FLOWER Crock

  
Antique Stoneware hand thrown, salt glazed crock by Whites Pottery of Utica, New York in the years after the Civil War. Charles White assumed control of the pottery after his father, Nicholas White left the firm in 1865. As the Grandson of founder, Noah White, Charles helped the pottery grow into one of New York State's finest potteries making some of New York's most memorable stoneware. This crock is a showstopper! There is a brilliant and showy "FABULOUS FLOWER" meticulously hand painted in indigo blue cobalt.

This is truly an artist at work. The crock also features a nice stamped makers mark simply reading. In addition the crock also has an incised number "6" for the gallon capacity and two nice sturdy applied lug handles. There is some chipping around the lip, a faint hairline near the top rear, a glazing surface hairline on the right side center and a gouge chip on right side lower.

Dimensions are 13 1/4" high by 13" wide. I have the highest care and regard for my fellow stoneware enthusiasts. Buyers of antique stoneware should know that this item is used and not new and that all antique stoneware shows some evidence of wear and flaws in its manufacture.
