Description : A large Stoneware Cover or Lid for a Cake Crock with primitive brushed cobalt floral decorations, 12 Diameter, probably Pennsylvania origin, ca. Wheel-thrown, circular form with central button-type handle and applied flange on the underside. Decorated with three similar fan-like florals in Brushed Cobalt.
Condition : Two shallow chips on the handle; one on the bottom flange, otherwise Good to Very Good. Inherent glaze glaze, surface and firing imperfections, including four stack marks, noted for descriptive accuracy. Note : T are two small cracks noted on the outer rim.
These appear to be the result of clay shrinkage and/or separation, in-the-making (see close-ups, photos 7&9). See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. Measures approximately 12 Diameter overall with a 1W lip underneath and quite heavy.
If you are planning on marrying this Lid with an existing crock in your collection, a piece with an outer rim diameter of (+/-) 12 would be ideal.
