Antique Stoneware 3G Edmands & Co Cream Crock with Cobalt, Charlestown MA, 1850s

  
Description : An antique Stoneware Cream Pot Storage Crock with Cobalt Floral decorations, 3-Gallon capacity, Boston, Massachusetts origin, ca. Semi-Ovoid form with tooled rim and applied lug handles. Impressed on the shoulder: EDMANDS & Co. / CHARLESTOWN with a capacity designation above. See Bill Ketchums American Stoneware, p. 49 for further information on the firm. Front features a large Triple-Tulip Floral decoration in Brushed Cobalt. Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Note: the vast majority of marked Edmands & Co.

Stoneware were quickly decorated with a cobalt slip cup. Condition : Very Good overall with the following imperfections noted below. Rim wear expected wear and chips, notably one on reverse with small associated hairline. Body with moderate surface discoloration; some fry on the thickest areas or the decoration; surface-only hairlines upper right (see close-up, photo #8). Base with minor wear and small piece of attached clay.

Inherent surface, glaze and firing imperfections pings, scars, etc. Noted for complete descriptive accuracy. No repaired damage or restoration work. A very desirable form and Boston (Charlestown) maker. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
