Antique Stoneware Whites Utica NY Butter Crock Lidded Canister with Cobalt Leaves

  

Description : A large Blue & Gray lidded Storage Canister or Butter Crock, attributed to the pottery of Whites Utica, NY, ca. Molded cylindrical form with embossed and cobalt-highlighted 4-Leaf Stem over a heavily-stippled ground.

Retains original fitted lid and wire bail with turned & painted wooden handle. Condition : Crock is in Very Good condition with some expected wear and shallow flakes along the rim ledge.

Lid with minor wear on lower edge and one small chip, as shown. Bail and turned wood handle with wire oxidation, wear and paint loss. Some surface discoloration/soiling noted on the crock; it has not been cleaned. No cracks or repaired damage. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for complete descriptive accuracy.

These Whites Lidded Canisters are quite difficult to find original and complete! See photos for complete details and close-ups.
