Extremely Rare Decorated Stoneware Jug J. A. Felsinger Rochester Ny Burger Lang

  
Here is an extremely rare and possibly unique decorated stoneware 4 gallon jug from Rochester NY and is decorated with a large slip heart along with a hand drawn 4. This jug has been view by collectors and none have seen the Felsinger name on it. Previous owner of the jug contacted the Rochester NY historian and learned that Felsinger was the Alderman of the 11th Ward in Rochester NY during the 1870s and also a democratic leader in the city of Rochester. He operated a wholesale liquor business for a short time in the 1870s which is probably the origin of the jug. After consulting with several more knowledgeable collectors, it was learned that the jug itself was likely potted by Burger & Lang as they also used this" slip heart" decoration. We could not find no record from anywhere (auctions, books or online) of another stoneware jug with the J. This jug is in excellent condition with only a short tight hairline to the body and to tiny ones at base edge. The jug measures 17 1/2" tall by about 11" wide.
