R. J. Grier Mount Jordan Chester County PA Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock

  

This is a rare cake crock attributed to R. Grier of Mount Jordan which is in Chester County PA. It dates to the middle 1800s. Very nice tulips decorates this highly sought after piece that is commonly mistaken for the work of Remmey.

There are far less pieces made by Grier's hand than that of Remmey, though they have similarities in decoration. This piece has a much darker red clay used similar to the area of origin.

It is in excellent condition with some spider cracking to the glaze on the inside as pictured, but not into the clay. It also has some small chips under the one handle with no other cracks or repairs. Don't miss out on this rare piece with deep cobalt blue decoration.
