A rare example of 19th century American stoneware. A straight sided storage crock or jar. Likely made in Philadelphia during the third quarter of the 19th century at the pottery of Thomas Haig. The crock is thickly coated with Haig's characteristic "Bristol" glaze. The glaze has a particularly nice cream color. Decorated with blue floral design on both sides. A small one gallon or possibly gallon and a half size. A good opportunity to own a beautiful piece of American folk pottery. 8" in height and 7 3/4" in diameter not counting the handles. One small chip to the handle and some tight spiders in the base that are not visible on the glazed interior. An area of glaze loss to the interior rim.
