This Listing is for a Stoneware Wax Sealer Canning Jar with 3 Cobalt Freehand Stripes, (1 solid, 2 double wavy), Framing a Floral Commas Cobalt Stencil. It reminds me of some Pennsylvania Dutch Influence. The Potter's Name is Missing, but is probably from Southwestern Pennsylvania. Dating to around 1880's, this Stone Jar Is Sweet for Display. Condition is Good with the Following Damage: There are several chips around the top Rim and Inner Ring, with Wax Residue, and evidence that the previous owners chipped the jar when trying to remove the Wax.
Due to the Smallness of the Jar, measuring 8 1/4 inches, it might have been used for Apple Butter, Preserves, or Honey. To the left side of the Cobalt Freehand Stripes and Stencil, the Jar has Surface Scratches that can be Viewed in the Photos. It looks as if the Jar was against a stone wall or another Jar during storage time.
The Jar is Not Cracked, but has had some rough treatment in its past. Please View the Photo Gallery for additional Information.
