Rare ovoid 3 gallon stoneware jar made by William Roberts in Binghamton, NY. William Roberts operated in Binghamton from 1848 to 1888 dating this piece to the back half of the 19th century. Compared to other examples Ive seen from this maker in this size, the cobalt decoration of a dot dragonfly is large and well centered on the piece. The best part about this piece is the condition! There is a very small chip at the base pictured next to an orange post-it but otherwise it is in as made condition.

Youll notice that one handle does have a glazed over chip that would have been present at the time it was made. There are also two areas of discoloration and cracking in the glaze toward the base which have been pictured, likely from the kiln. The dot cobalt decoration cracked through the glaze which youll see in the texture of the front of the piece. Lots of pictures in the listing, I have tried my best to capture all conditions issues.
