This is an excellent original mid 19th century 4 gallon stoneware crock with salt glaze on the outside surface, Albany slip glaze on the inside, and cobalt tornado or "drop eight" design on the front. Condition is excellent; what appears to be a few chips on the inner edge of the rim are actually fingerprints in the clay and have glaze in them, and there is one fingerprint size chip on the outside edge of the rim that may or may not be from manufacture. There is one tiny crack on the bottom edge that does not go through and also probably happened during manufacture. There are no other flaws, the color is beautiful inside and out, and it is clean and shiny and displays beautifully!
