Here is a great example of what I believe to be an Ohio stoneware spittoon that dates back to 1800s. This piece came out of central Ohio and has a clay and glaze that resembles other known Ohio stoneware pieces so I feel comfortable attributing it to Ohio.
It's in excellent condition with know cracks or hairlines. The glaze is very good and shines with little to know where. The bottom has glazed fingerprints on the bottom which I think is pretty cool. This piece is not signed but there is an incised "I" on the bottom. Most of these stoneware spittoons didn't survive due to their crude use so it's rare to find one this nice.
