19th Century Virginia Decorated Salt Glaze Stoneware Jar

  
A great looking piece of early American pottery. Salt glaze stoneware 1 gallon jar. Ovoid shape with tab handles. Possibly made in the James River area of Virginia, Henrico County.

The jar is decorated with cobalt on both sides as well as the handles. The color of the pot is very dark in both clay and decoration. Likely as a result of being under fired. A few small flakes to handles and rims.
