ANTIQUE ONE HALF GALLON COBALT SLIP DECORATED SALT GLAZED STONEWARE CROCK. Attributed: Strasburg, VA, Likely Solomon Bell. A nice variable color gray salt glaze on the exterior. A light salt glaze on the interior. A 1/2 extended tall and slightly flattened top rim.
Raised ribbed decoration just below the top rim used to tie off cloth cover. Four units of cobalt slip stylized decoration on all sides with longer last stroke just below the top rim. Potter's finger grooves visible inside.
The crock is in good condition showing three tight separations on the bottom with one branching off and running 2/3 up one side. Despite these separations, the crock is structurally sound. A nice piece of late 19th century decorated salt glazed pottery! THANKS FOR VISITING LANE'S COUNTRY LARK!
