From local Charleston SC Estate: This beautiful piece of utilitarian pottery is from Edgefield SC. It has strap handles, brown and green alkaline wood fired glaze, and light clay are all indicative of the early slave made pottery of this region. The most famous maker of this time period was David Drake, also known as Dave the Potter and Dave the Slave, c. 1870s was an American potter who lived in Edgefield, South Carolina.
There is a hairline crack on the lip and partway down. Also a chip on one of the strap handles and rim.
