Up for sale is a salt glazed stoneware butter crock, made by the Fulper Pottery of Flemington NJ, with script advertising for the grocery firm of "West & Jeffrey". West & Jeffrey operated a store in Long Branch, NJ during the 1880s and 90s. The crock was crudely made, a common occurrence in earlier Fulper stoneware pieces. It looks overcooked from the kiln and there are numerous impurities + inclusions in the clay which give it a rippled "spiderweb" appearance.
I'm confident you'll agree it's in as-made condition, a rarity for utilitarian pieces like this. I have a variety of other stoneware for sale - message me if you'd like more details.
