This handsome, circa 1875, one-gallon, cobalt-decorated stoneware jar is stenciled Hamilton & Jones, / Greensboro. " It takes a semi-ovoid shape with a tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with five freehand stripes and the desirable Hamilton & Jones "GREENE CO.
There are a few minor nicks to the shoulder molding and a long sealed Y-shaped hairline at the base, connecting to a cross-shaped hairline on the underside. There is an in-firing chip to the underside at the edge. The jar stands 9 1/2 tall and its diameter at the base measures 6 1/4 inches.
