This listing is for a Red Wing 4 Gallon crock from the late 1800's. Salt glazed with a lazy 8 or "bee sting" design marking the number 4 on the front.
The crock is in great condition for its age with loads of character; you can see the lovely patina causing color variations on the outside of the crock, normal for crocks of this age as well as how one of the handles appears to be slightly lopsided. Variations like this are normal for crocks from the 1800's. There are a few small chips noted on the bottom of the crock (see photos) and on one of the handles. There is a defect, which I suspect was caused in the production of the crock by the way it looks, on the front by the salt glaze design (see photo). Overall, there are no true cracks running along the inside or outside.
The dimensions of the crock are. Height: approximately 12 - 12.25 inches.
Diameter: approximately 11 - 11.25 inches. This is a wonderful piece of history, and crocks of this age are becoming harder and harder to find in this condition. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like more photos.
