Antique Salt Glaze Stoneware Crock with a'Bulbous' Body and Nice Orange Peel

  

This is a beautifully formed, southern made- probably Virginia- salt glaze stoneware dry or wet storage crock/jar with a single raised ridge near the top. The neck is inset to allow a string to be tied to hold a cloth over the mouth or it could be sealed with wax for'wet' storage of preserves, molasses, etc. It has a beautiful bulbous form: 9" height by 7" d.

The center of the base was scraped out to create a ring foot. There is a shallow chip on the rim, and it has interesting firing flaws, but no other chips and no cracks or repairs. It is in excellent condition overall with a great,'orange peel' glaze. This is the first time this attractive outstanding 19. Century crock has been listed for sale.

It could be a good addition to a collection or a terrific standalone piece. I describe every item as well as I can but remember that the photos are part of the description. I will do everything I can to resolve any issues.
