Description: An antique Blue & Gray #3 lidded Storage Canister or Butter Crock, attributed to the pottery of Whites Utica, NY, ca. Molded cylindrical form with embossed and cobalt-highlighted Aster stem, or similar mum, over a heavily-stippled ground. Crock and lid interiors with an off-white, zinc glaze. Retains original fitted lid, wire bail and turned wooden handle. Impressed 3 above the decoration.
Condition: Crock is in Very Good condition with expected rim and base wear, shallow flakes, surface lines, soiling, etc. Lid with wear, soiling and small chip with associated hairline.
Bail and turned wood handle with wire oxidation, wear and paint loss, as shown. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy. See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description.
