A commanding antique Jar or Storage Crock with cobalt stenciled advertising decoration, 4-Gallon capacity, Harrison County, West Virginia origin, ca. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles. Elaborate floral stenciled decorations flank and surround Alexander Conrads maker advertising reading: 4 / A.

CONRAD / SHINNSTON / W. Additional decorations include a large freehand cobalt stripe below the rim and brushed cobalt accents around the handle terminals. Shiny, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Fun Fact : In 1880, the population of Shinnston, West Virginia was...

Condition : Very Good to Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Other than two very minor rim chips on reverse (see close-up, photo #11), I can find no other post-production flaws. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy.

Uncommon 4-Gallon capacity; measures 14-3/4H x 9-1/4W overall with a base diameter of 8-3/4. The inner and outer rim diameters are 7 and 8-1/2, respectively.
