Description : A rare, 1-Gallon Stoneware Jug with West Virginia Merchant Advertising, ca. Wheel-thrown, slightly bulbous form with eased shoulder, tooled spout and applied handle. Stenciled cobalt merchant advertising reads: R. / WHOLESALE / DRUGGISTS / WHEELING , / W. Note : This jug was likely a special order for the WV drug wholesaler, manufactured in nearby Greensboro, PA.

See Internet for further information on the merchant. Condition : Very Good overall with strong color, desirable 1-Gallon size and highly sought after West Virginia advertising.

Some minor imperfections, mostly in-the-making, are noted below. Stack marks noted on the body (front, upper left), and around the perimeter of upper shoulder.

Moderate stone pop, reverse, mid-handle. Shallow chips on the spout (right side) & lower neck, as shown.

Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for complete descriptive accuracy. No cracks, repaired damage, restoration work or other excuses. I doubt any Wheeling or Western PA Stoneware enthusiast would be disappointed with this Advertising Jug. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
