Description : An antique slip-glazed stoneware Chicken Feeder or Poultry Fountain dated 1885, probably WR & Co. Molded cylindrical form with recessed feeding area and two rear legs to provide a slight angle toward the open end. Covered in a rich brown Albany Slip glaze. Outer Rim is embossed: PAT, D APR 7 1885 (Note: the D is spelled backwards). Inner concave surface with and embossed Chicken Figure above FOUNTAIN.
Background : This appears to be J. Cooks Drinking Fountain for Poultry that was patented on April 7, 1885 Pat.

A true marriage of Form & Function. Minor imperfections are noted below. Outer Rim with a few nicks and shallow flakes that have been touched up. Embossed Chicken and the word FOUNTAIN both have some imperfections in-the-making. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy.
