With a freehand 2 capacity designation to the right. Front features a large, hawk-like Northern Goshawk? Bird Decoration on a stylized swirling sprig with tornado flourish. Artistically executed in bold, Slip-Trailed Cobalt.
Salt-glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Attribution : This bird decoration shares striking similarities with other known R. OConnell / Albany examples, including the heavily shaded long tail and wing, distinctive breast detailing and large exaggerated eye. See Internet for further information, comps, etc. Condition : Good to Very Good overall with attractive decoration.
Rim with expected wear and soiling consistent with age and use. Body with some staining/discoloration, notably an area to the right of the bird. Base with some expected perimeter wear, including a faint hairline on reverse that extends partially into the body (see close-up, photo #12). Interior with moderate to heavy mineral staining, likely residue from pickling brine.
Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections, including cobalt fry on the decoration and a small stone ping below the Albany stamp, noted for descriptive accuracy. No repairs, restoration work or other excuses.
Displays brilliantly; highly appropriate for any collection. See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description.
Measures 9-1/2H x 10-1/4W overall, including both handles. The inner and outer rim diameters are 8-5/8 and 9-1/2, respectively.
