Description : I've been asked by several West Coast followers/Stoneware collectors to list a bit later in the day, so here goes: An items important, Early American Stoneware Crock or Jar with primitive incised designs, 3-Gallon capacity, CT or NY origin, ca. Wheel-thrown, Semi-Ovoid form with tooled shoulder, applied loop/lug handles and pronounced, footed base.
Each side features different incised and cobalt-filled decorations: (1) Songbird pair perched on berry sprig; and (2) large, Daisy-like Blossom on a leafy stem. Additional cobalt accents on each handle terminal. Gray, salt-glazed exterior; Brown, Mineral Slip interior. This example has attributes of both CT and NY origin based on overall form and incised decoration.
See Internet for further information. Condition : Base perimeter with multiple chips and three associated faint hairlines, as shown; otherwise Very Good to Excellent with fine, sought after decoration(s). Highly-appropriate for the advanced collector of Early Stoneware or Americana. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. This Crock is very solid, extremely heavy and rings true! Measures approximately 12-3/4"H x 10"W overall with a base diameter of 6-1/2. The inner and outer rim diameters are 7-1/4" and 8-1/2", respectively. Good Luck, thanks for looking, and be sure to bookmark my Auctions, listed and ending daily.
