Antique Stoneware Mini PA Cake Crock with Cobalt Tulip Florals, att Remmey, c1870

  

A petite, decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with profuse Cobalt Floral decorations, 1/2 to 3/4 Gallon capacity, attributed to the Remmey Family Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, ca. Wheel-thrown, squat cylindrical form with incised multi-line (6) shoulder, squared rim and applied lug handles. Body features (4) PA Drooping Tulip decorations (two on each side), artistically executed in the boldest of Brushed Cobalt. In addition, each handle terminal is highlighted with dark blue cobalt connected by a lower wavy swag. Shiny, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany or Mineral Slip interior.

Condition : Rim, base and handles with expected utilitarian wear, including shallow chip and nicks, as shown; otherwise Very Good with strong color. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy.

I doubt any American Stoneware enthusiast would be disappointed with this little Philadelphia Cake. No cracks, repaired damage, restoration work or other excuses. See photos for complete details and close-ups.

Please consider them as part of the description. Charming and very desirable 3/4 Gallon capacity. Note : This Cake fits 12 Cups (3/4 Gal) when filled up to the rim, and 8 Cups (1/2 Gal) filled 1-1/2 below the rim.

Probably considered a Half-Gallon Cake, to allow for expansion of ingredients during the baking process. Measures only 9-1/2W x 4-3/4H overall with a base diameter of 8-3/8.
