Impressed below the rim with a cobalt-washed stamp reading: NICHOLS & BOYNTON / BURLINGTON, VT. This was a short-lived partnership, and the mark is considered rare. I doubt very many Cake Crocks were produced by this firm.See Bill Ketchums American Stoneware, p. 45 for further information and authors classification. Front features a primitive, fern-like Floral decoration in bold Slip-Trailed Cobalt. Condition : Very Good overall with strong color, uncommon form and desirable Burlington mark. Minor mperfections are noted below.
Moderate wear along the upper rim, where a lid would rest. Small chips on handles and base, as shown. Discoloration and a contact mark on right side & reverse, in-the-making.No cracks or repaired damage. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description.
Measures 5"H x 11"W overall, including the handles. The inner and outer rim diameters are 8-3/4 and 10-1/4, respectively.
