Description : A scarce Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, 3-Gallon capacity, Rockingham County, New Hampshire origin, ca. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with tooled rim and applied lug handles. Impressed on the shoulder with a cobalt-washed stamp: FRANK H.
The Lampson Pottery is mentioned briefly in Lura Woodside Watkins Early New England Potters and Their Wares, p. A rare and highly sought-after NH mark. Front features a large stylized Floral Bouquet (aka Double Onion), artistically executed in bold, Slip-Trailed Cobalt. Tan, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Condition : Several shallow chips along the inner/outer rim, and a stable, inverted y-shaped hairline (rear left, close-up photos #5 & #11); otherwise in Very Good to Excellent original condition with strong color and well-proportioned decoration.
No fry, no repairs, no restoration work. Super clean inside and out; the line is visible on the interior, however. Displays brilliantly; highly appropriate for any collection of New Hampshire or Early American Stoneware.
