This rare stoneware crock was made by Stuckey pottery in the early 1800s. Die impressed "3" cobalt blue tulip Crock measures approx 10.75" tall by 9.75" diameter. Below the lip are 2 incised rings. Condition is nice with no chips or cracks.

Martin Stuckey was the first potter in Martin County and possibly the first in the state of Indiana. Stuckey stoneware is extremely rare and this crock is a fine example.

Decorated with a cobalt tulip and globs of green glaze. I've included a picture of the kiln that had been excavated before new owners covered it over. I believe it is an example of a groundhog kiln, dug into the ground and lined with bricks.
