The Western Pottery Co Of Denver Stoneware Pottery Jug with original spigot. Size is approximately 13 tall and 10 wide. Jug weight alone is approximately 16 lbs.
This wonderful Albany-brown, dip glazed jug with ORIGINAL spigot was used for storing and dispensing mineral water, ginger ale, root beer or apple cider. More specifically, any beverage where stuff that you didn't want in your glass floated to the top. This piece is an ANTIQUE, the Western Pottery Mfg Co, Denver, COLO, was active for a relatively short period from 1905 to about 1919. So this jug piece is over 100 years old. In 1905 Western Pottery took over Queen City Pottery Works and the Denver China and Pottery Company, both located in Denver.
In 1919 the company changed its name to the "Denver Pottery Company". The Western Pottery Mfg, Co is not to be confused with Western Stoneware of Monmouth Illinois, best recognized by its maple leaf logo, but there is no connection other than a similar sounding name. This jug is a rare survivor with its original 7 inch wood spigot, all in remarkably good condition.
