BEAUTIFUL & RARE 5 GALLON , 14 " TALL " DAVE ATTRIBUTED STORAGE JAR. THIS JAR IS MARKED ON THE SHOULDER , " SC " & 5 SLASH MARKS SIMILAR TO SEVERAL DAVID DRAKE PIECES. THE PICTURES TELL THE STORY AS FAR AS CONDITION GOES. NOTHING NOTABLE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WEAR TO THE RIM CAUSED BY A METAL WATER LADLE ACCORDING TO WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. HIS GREAT GRANDMOTHER USED THE JAR TO GIVE OUT WATER TO THE FIELD HANDS DIPPING IT OUT WITH AN OLD TIMEY METAL LADLE. I HAVE STUDIED THE MARKINGS ON THIS JAR & THOUGHT MAYBE THEY COULD BE A "5" & A HORSESHOE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A REFERENCE TO SOUTH CAROLINA ON ANY OTHER DAVID DRAKE PIECE. CAN I SAY WITH 100 % ACCURACY THAT IT'S REFERENCING SOUTH CAROLINA , NO , BUT I COULD NOT IMAGINE IT BEING ANYTHING ELSE. THIS PIECE CAME FROM A HOMEPLACE IN GEORGIA.

THE HOMES FIREPLACE WAS DATED 1855. THE FAMILY CAN TRACE IT'S ROOTS TO THE PROPERTY SINCE THE EARLY 1720'S. THE HOME WAS RESIDENCE TO CONFEDERATE OFFICERS WHILE TROOPS STAYED IN THE BARN & OUTBUILDINGS DURING THE CIVIL WAR. THIS PLACE WAS TRULY A TIME CAPSULE. INSURED S&H - NO CHARGE.
