Offered is a fine 2 gallon stoneware jug with cobalt floral decoration. It is stamped "Norton & Fenton/Bennington, VT, " and is circa 1845.
The jug is highly ovoid with a ribbed handle. It is artistically brushed with a floral design of a large tulip flanked by two smaller tulips, all extending from a curving stem with curled leaves. The jug is a skillfully-potted form with excellent decoration and color.It stands approximately 12.5 inches tall and is 9.25 inches wide. There is some loss to the base edge (that extends about 1/2 way around the base). There is a faint surface "x" crack just under the handle and another faint surface 3 inch crack extending up from the base.
