Description : A fine, antique stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird decoration, 2-Gallon capacity, New York State origin, ca. Wheel-thrown cylindrical form with rounded rim and applied lug handles. Impressed below the rim: J. UNDERWOOD / FORT EDWARD, N. See Internet for further information on the maker(s). Front features a classic Song Bird perched on a stylized sprig, executed in Slip-Trailed Cobalt. Shiny, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Condition : Some minor wear on the upper rim and a single shallow flake on the base, as shown; otherwise in Very Good to Excellent, as-made condition.
Inherent glaze and surface imperfections, including a glazed-over iron ping below the right handle, noted for descriptive accuracy. Super clean inside and out. No cracks, no repairs, no restoration work. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
