This is a very rare humidor from California Art Tile Company in Richmond CA who were known for their tiles from 1922 or 1923 - 1956. This humidor is missing it's lid but still makes a nice utensil crock, vase or display piece. It is a wonderful piece that depicts the Mission era in the California region.
This appears to be the Santa Barbara mission flanked by tall drooping trees on one side and a Vaquero (Mexican cowboy) on the other. Done in relief in a matte finish with earth color blends of brown and green, very natural looking. The works of Cal Art are among the premier examples produced during California's Arts and Crafts period, and this rare piece with it's original lid exemplifies their superior craftsmanship. Excellent antique condition, just a couple small chip along the bottom edge as shown in the last photo.
