Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled RICHEY & HAMILTON. Tooled shoudler and rounded rim.
Some white on the cobalt stencilled banner. This antique canning jar is a wax lid canning crock from about 1875. Wax lid canning crocks can be hard to find because not many survived during this period--- the flaw of the wax lids is that the crocks usually broke trying to open it. This crock has a lip around the mouth to hold a metal lid that is placed on the top and then wax was poured into the indention to seal the jar. There is a crack coming up at of the base. If there is any such thing as a'solid crack', this would be it. One small nick inside- see photos 10 & 11. Depending on your location, there can be a significant price difference between these two carriers. Fed Ex will not deliver to a P.
