S. H. Sonner, Strasburg, Va, Stoneware Crock Price Reduced
Offered for sale is a cylindrical stoneware crock or pot from the Strasburg pottery of Samuel H. Sonner, who produced ware from 1870 to 1883. Its gray salt glaze body has soft shades of red, characteristic of Valley stoneware. Splashes of cobalt around the upper part of the crock add decoration. The capacity mark is stamped next to the pottery's stamp: one gallon. There are two small 1/4 inch chips to the outer rim, visible in the photo, but no other problems. Its height is 9 1/4 inches, and the diameter is 6 3/4 inches.
