A nice example of early American folk pottery. A salt glaze stoneware storage jar with cobalt decoration.
Blue floral or feather motif with blue dashes around the top. The decoration color and form are consistent with pieces made in Pennsylvania or Maryland during the third quarter of the 19th century. What's particularly unusual about this piece is that there is blue script across the bottom. Unfortunately it is largely illegible and what it says is open to some interpretation.
A great looking piece all the way around. A crack 85 percent of the way down the side but not in the bottom. One small chip to rim.
