Very Rare W. Smith N. Y. C Blue Decorated Ovoid Stoneware Crock 1830's/40's
UP FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS THIS. Very Rare Cobalt-Decorated Ovoid Stoneware Crock, Stamped W. SMITH / GREENWICH / NEW YORK, on the backside. Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1830's/40's. It is approximately 10" tall and measures approximately 5" across and bottom and top. The ovoid portion measures approximately 8. The decoration is a large cobalt blue flower on the front, Both ears are decorated with blue and are in perfect condition. Smith's shop was located at 32-34 Eighteenth Street, on Manhattan's west side in the area known as Chelsea.
There is a tight hairline about 3 down from the rim. There is a very tight hairline coming up from the base that is also about 3 long but very tight. There are a couple stonepings but only one has a piece of clay out of it. Nothing major only mentioned for accuracy.
